After Toni Gonzaga previously admitted that ABS-CBN management had talked to her about the possibility of her replacing Kris Aquino on The Buzz, Toni revealed last Sunday, June 13, that she was given a recent update about the matter but she refused to reveal additional details. “Hindi ko pa alam ang mga mangyayari. Actually charotera ako, alam ko na, dyijo-joke ko lang kayo,” she said playfully to some press people backstage at ASAP XV last June 13.
She further revealed that she was one of the few people that Kris had told about her plan to leave her entertainment talk shows by the end of June. “Ever since naman maganap ‘yang pagpapaalam ni Ate Kris, ti-next na niya ako [and sina] Mariel (Rodriguez) and Bianca (Gonzalez) kung ano ‘yung mangyayari. Pero hindi niya sinabi sa akin kung ano bang mga plano. Anong plano ng management,” said Toni. Toni, Mariel, and Bianca substituted for Kris on SNN while the latter helped out with her brother Noynoy Aquino’s election campaign.
“Ngayon kasi parang hindi pa namin puwedeng sabihin lahat. Ako kasi it’s not yet over until it’s over. Marami pang puwedeng mangyari, maraming pwede mang mabago so, may mga pag-uusap,” Toni said of the possibility of becoming a host on The Buzz.
And since there is no announcement yet from the management, Toni does not want to assume anything. “Dito sa industriyang ito lahat ng gagawin mo may pressure whether it be pupunta ka sa isang show, may gagawin ka, kahit ano… pelikula, hosting, pero right now, hindi pa natin iniintindi ang ganoong bagay. Sasagutin natin ‘yan kapag final na ang lahat. Sa ngayon kasi hintayin natin ang magaganap. Meron pang ilang weeks si Ate Kris.”
Just the same, Toni said that it would be a pleasure for her if she gets the hosting stint especially because this will also mean having the chance to work with Boy Abunda, whom she looks up to. “It’s always a pleasure to work with Tito Boy. Siguro it’s an honor na rin for me kasi being with someone in the business nung bago pa lang ako, siya ‘yung nag-interview sa akin. Nung bata pa lang ako napapanood ko na siya sa iba’t ibang talk shows before. Nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na makatrabaho siya sa SNN nung nag-substitute kami kay Ate Kris. Malaking bagay na rin sa akin ‘yon andami kong natutunan sa kanya.”
What she likes most about working with the King of Talk is that he allows his co-host to have his or her “moment.” “He’s very professional; he doesn’t steal the limelight from you. Hinahayaan ka niyang mag-shine in your own way and he pushes you, tinutulungan ka niya kapag kasama ka niya sa isang hosting stint. Hindi niya pinaparamdam sa ‘yo ‘yung status niya, ‘yung capabilities niya as a host. Ang mas pinaparamdam niya sa ‘yo ‘yung maging comfortable ka sa kanya and this is something na I will always treasure, ‘yung chance na naka-work ko si Tito Boy. ‘Yung natutunan ko sa kanya na gagawin ko rin in the future.
