It seems that ABS-CBN is eyeing Toni Gonzaga to replace Kris Aquino as a host of The Buzz, as soon as the Queen of All Media leaves the show in June. But when ABS-CBN.com caught up with Toni at PMPC’s Stars for A Cause last May 28, she stressed that nothing’s final until after her meeting with the network’s executives. “Ayoko magsalita right now. I will have a meeting this weekend and we’ll see it from there. When it's all final, tsaka ko pwede sabihin.Pero yung SNN, wala, sa tingin ko hindi (ako ang papalit dun).” Asked if she will be leaving Entertainment Live once she gets to be the host of The Buzz, Toni simply replied, ““E-live will go on and maraming mangyayari in the coming days.”
What’s really telling though is that she already talked to Kris about what will happen now that the latter’s giving up her showbiz-oriented talk shows to be of help to her brother Noynoy. “Even before she made this decision, kinausap na niya ako, si Mariel (Rodriguez) at Bianca (Gonzalez), tatlo naman kami. Tinext ako ni Ate Kris. She told me something very personal and I don’t wanna share it right now. Basta one thing that I always say and I will never get tired of saying this—I will always admire what she did for her family. Kaya niya i-give up yung isang bagay na mahal na mahal niya alang-alang sa pamilya niya, so yun muna siguro.”
Amidst all the speculations surrounding this issue, Toni said that the only thing that’s clear to her is that no one could really replace The Queen of All Media because her talent and achievements as a host are simply incomparable. “It’s a big responsibility for me. I’ve said it so many times, walang pwedeng pumalit kay Ate Kris. What Ate Kris did for The Buzz, her contribution, walang pwedeng pumalit nun. Kung sino man ang pwepwesto at lulugar sa The Buzz, siguro she can only be herself and contribute something pero hindi niya kaya palitan si Ate Kris.”
Since she couldn’t go into details about her possible hosting stint on The Buzz, Toni began to share how she and Kris became friends instead. “It all started two years ago nung kinuha niya yung number ko and I guested in Boy and Kris nun. Hindi naman kami masyadong close na close na parang Tito Boy (Abunda) closeness. Naging close kami in a way na thankful ako dahil kinonsider niya ako na isa sa mga taong pinagkakatiwalaan niya. Hindi lang siguro sa trabaho but I guess also with her life. Hindi ko naman akalain na dadating kami sa ganong level kasi ever since I entered ABS-CBN, ang tingin kokay Ate Kris reyna talaga ng mga talk shows at isa talaga siya sa mga institusyon sa ABS-CBN.”
On her final note, Toni revealed the best advice that she has ever gotten was from Kris herself. “Madami siyang binigay na payo sa akin. Pero yung isang bagay na hindi ko makakalimutan ay yung tinuro niya na mahalin ko yung trabaho ko at pati mga katrabaho ko. Yun yung nakita ko sa kanya na importante dito sa industriyang ginagalawan natin.”
