AJ Perez top-bills the new horror film ‘Cinco’

AJ Perez has been doing support roles in several Star Cinema films, like Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo; BFF; and Ang Tanging Pamilya. But this 2010, AJ will finally play a major role in the new horror film Cinco, also produced by Star Cinema. Following the story conference for Cinco, AJ shared with ABS-CBN.com his excitement over this project. “Marami na akong ginawang movies with Star Cinema, but puro support roles lang. Dito isa na ako sa mga bida at horror pa so definitely magiging challenging siya for me. Maganda kasi the viewers will finally see ‘yung presence namin.”

AJ will star alongside his Gigger Boys buds Sam Concepcion and Robi Domingo in the first of the five episodes of Cinco to be entitled Braso. Only three members of the seven-piece all-male dance group are in this project, something which AJ said should not be a reason for conflict among the members of Gigger Boys. “If anyone of us will have a project outside of Gigger Boys we are happy. Dino (Imperial) decided to go his own way na. Si Enchong (Dee) he’ll be doing another movie na kasi. He has a lot of projects na rin dati pa and hindi naman kami nainggit. Walang competition. Enchong had his chance, itong Cinco chance naman namin ito. Parang debut namin.”

For the 17-year old, the most challenging part in doing Cinco, aside from acting terrified in front of the camera, is having to wear nothing but boxer shorts as required for the role. AJ considers this as a way to be an all-around actor, and good thing Muay Thai is preparing him to be in shape in time for shooting. “Parang it’s a way of saying na this is one way of growing up as an artist. I’m up for it. Me and Robi are doing Muay Thai na so we can get into shape para when the time comes we need to do mature roles we are ready. And I can say na ready na ako.

AJ will also be doing another movie co-starring Andi Eigenmann and Eugene Domingo. Cinco will also star Mariel Rodriguez, Pokwang, and Jayson Gainza, and will hit theaters this July.
