President Arroyo casts vote in Lubao

MANILA, Philippines - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo came early to her assigned polling precinct to cast her vote in Lubao, Pampanga province on Monday morning.

Mrs. Arroyo, wearing a green sleeveless blouse, arrived with her son, incumbent Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Mikey Arroyo, at Clustered Precinct 1-A at the Lubao Elementary School at 7 a.m..

She started casting her vote at 7:05 a.m.

ABS-CBN News correspondent Willard Cheng said it took Mrs. Arroyo at least 6 minutes to complete the shading of the ovals on the ballots and input the ballot into the voting machine.

She gave a big smile and heaved a sigh of relief after the Precinct Count Optical Scan machine accepted her ballot.

Before voting, Mrs. Arroyo walked from her house towards the Saint Augustine Parish to attend a private Mass dedicated for a peaceful and successful conduct of the first-ever nationwide automated elections in the country.

If she wins, Mrs. Arroyo will become the first Philippine leader to become a congresswoman after serving as president.

Her son, who still has one term left, has given way to his mother. He is seeking to represent a party-list group of security guards and public utility transport drivers in the House of Representatives. – Report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
