Fans of teen-oriented shows would probably recognize Jessie Mendiola of Star Magic Batch 15 from her stints in Abt Ur Luv (Ur Lyf 2) and Astigs. The Fil-British beauty is now in Your Song Presents Boystown where she plays the role of Karen, the girlfriend of Arkin played by Robi Domingo. “Sobrang iba yung feeling na mag-isa lang ako kasi let’s face it, may competition kapag madami kayong girls ‘di ba? Nandiyan yung maag-aagawan ng pansin, maiko-compare kayo sa isa’t isa. Pero now, mag-isa lang akong leading lady dito sa Boystown. I am sure na mabibigyan ako ng tamang exposure,” said the 16-year-old aspiring actress.
As previously reported in an ABS-CBN.com article, Jessie is being romantically linked with MYX VJ Robi Domingo who is said to be attracted to her Kristine Hermosa-ish looks. As a matter of fact, Robi was caught off guard when this issue came out during the press conference of Boystown last May 5. “Yun nga po kasi lagi kami nagkukulitan. Tapos nung nasa NBC Tent kami nung trade show ng ABS-CBN, palagi niya akong inaasar na, ‘Uy si Kristine o, Nasaan Ka Maruja!’ (The cast of Mars Ravelo’s Presents Nasaan Ka Maruja? and Boystown shared the same dressing room that night). So yung ibang tao sabi sa kanya, ‘Ikaw talaga bakit mo inaasar si Jessie. So parang sinasabi nila na nagkaka-developan kami. Pero okay lang naman. Robi is a good guy tsaka napakatalinong kausap,” she revealed.
Not one to be easily attracted to good-looking guys, Jessie further explained that she didn’t mean anything bad when she gave Robi a six on a scale of one to 10 in terms of his appeal to her. “Kasi I am not sure kung sasabihin ko bang eight or nine kasi we met ngayon lang sa Boystown. Iba naman kasi kung mas nakikila mo talaga yung person. But if you ask me kung anong first impression ko sa kanya, he’s about nine or eight for me. Kasi when you first look at Robi, hindi siya maingay na tao, napakatahimik tahimik niya. Pero once you get to know him, grabe, sobrang daldal and jokester niya. Ang saya-saya namin kapag magkasama kami kasi pareho kaming madaldal,” she beamed.
If ever Robi decides to pursue Jessie in the future, it seems that he stands a chance to win her heart since she considers a guy boyfriend material if he’s a few years older than her, just like he is. “Actually una ko pong naging crush si AJ Perez way, way back kasi ang gwapo niya. Sobrang magka-age lang kami. Tapos matalino and sobrang palabiro niya, na kapag nagbiro siya sobrang lahat kami tawa ng tawa. Pero hindi naman nadevelop yun into something more kasi ako I go for guys two or four years older than me. I don’t like na ka-edad ko yung magiging boyfriend ko kasi I don’t want to experience the world na sabay kami. Mas gusto ko yung matuturuan niya ako in a sense na mas mature na kasi siya. Sasabihan niya ako na ganito kasi ‘yan, explain niya sa akin kung bakit. For me kasi mas mahirap kung sabay kayong nage-explore,” she stressed.
