Christian Bautista shares to Myx Magazine the joy in traveling for work

Aside from the numerous out-of-the-country gigs he does for The Filipino Channel (TFC), Christian Bautista is also frequenting neighboring countries in Southeast Asia where he’s managed to garner a huge fan base. Christian has recently signed a contract for a music career in Indonesia where he has become a popular star in the past few years.

In an exclusive interview with Myx Magazine, he revealed that he frequently incorporates vacation into most of his shows abroad. “I like working and traveling. I just ask for an extension when I go out of the country. At least nandoon na ako, mage-extend na lang ako.” However, the handsome balladeer still has problems with packing light. “Hindi kasi talaga pwede. Isipin mo, if you have three shows, that’s already three outfits!” Aside from clothes, Christian can’t leave with his Blackberry, laptop, credit cards, clothes, toiletries, among other necessities.

The 28-year-old singer is in the process of learning Bahasa, as one of his ways to adapt to Indonesian culture and relate with his fans there. “I recorded a Bahasa song recently and also teamed up with a Mandarin singer for another version of Please Be Careful With My Heart and I’m really excited.” His local version of the Jose Mari Chan classic is with Sarah Geronimo.

Christian also recently performed at the Pattaya International Music Festival in Chonburi, Thailand. He was personally requested by the Thai government to be part of the said music event. "It’s a music festival that aims to promote Thailand’s tourism. There were six different stages for different genres and we were at the International Stage along with performers all over.” After his performance there, his music video of Tell Me Your Name, which featured Thai star Paula Taylor, was played, making most of his fans ‘kilig.’ “They were all surprised. A fan even asked if I dated Paula here,” he shared.

For his impressive music feat, earning him the title of ‘Asia’s Pop Idol,’ Christian was given a special citation during the 2010 Myx Music Awards for being a Philippine representative in the Asian music scene. “I had no idea! Wala man lang kahit isang hint! Sana man lang meron, pero I was dumbfounded. For the first few seconds, ang tumatakbo lang sa isip ko, ‘Think of something smart to say now,” he recalled when we went to accept his award during the event.
